The first Speed Queen self-service laundrette in Galway city-centre opened on
Monday 8 April, 2024.
They're located in Kirwan's Lane - just down from The Lane winebar, and Nelly boutique, in a shop that used to be ADHD Tattoo Studio.
This is a new type of site for Speed Queen: Usually they found in shopping
centres where there's easy car-access and plenty of parking, but this is a
inner-city spot with great pedestrian access, within easy walking distance of
lots of inner-city tourist accommodation.
They provide high-speed, self-operated washing machines and clothes-dryers - and chairs to sit on while you're waiting. There are dedicated machines for pet-bedding and other heavy duty / iccky things, and all machines self-sanitise after each wash.
No coins or tokens are needed: after loading your clothing, you pay pay at the kiosk using your phone , credit/debit card or though the Speed Queen app. Rates are nationwide, and advertised on their website.
